The County of Kerry, spanning some 1,815 Sq miles is home to some of Europe’s finest beaches, boasting no less that 13 Blue Flag Beaches!!!
So what does Blue Flag mean?

These beaches exemplify good integration with both the natural and built environment
All of these Blue Flag beaches are clean of algae and other vegetation that traditionally accumulate in stormy weather.
 
Ballybunion Beaches (North & South) – Blue Flag Beach 
The popular seaside town boasts no less than 3 Beaches set amid stunning scenery with acoustics provided by the crashing Atlantic Waves.  The main beach stretches from Cashen to the Castle, some 5km long and 100 meters wide. Ballybunion’s other two beaches, otherwise known as Ladies Beach & Nun’s Strand are nestled beneath the cliffs of Doneen.
All three of these areas are popular with surfers, canoeing and swimming. In the summer months Life Guards are present to keep an eye on everyone enjoying themselves.  
 
 
Ballyheigue Beach – Blue Flag Beach
Ballyheigue Beach, located in a Special area of conservation, stretches 3 Kilometers from the quaint village of Ballyheigue to ‘Black Rock’. This sandy beach is very popular with families and the hinterland surrounding the beach it a truly amazing backdrop for memorable stroll.
 
 
Banna Beach – Blue Flag Beach
This famous beach is where Rosger Casement was arrested in 1916 while taking artillery asore from the ‘Aud’, a German war vessel.
 
Banna Beach extends from Ballyheigue Beach in the North to Barrow Beach in the South. This Atlantic beach is home to Sand dunes with some rising to over 40 feet high. While standing on the shore visitors can see the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula extend to the horizon. Banna Beach is regarded as area of major ecological interest with many habitats and wildfowl nestling in this area.
 
Fenit Beach – Blue Flag Beach
This Sandy beach is designated as a natural heritage area with a rich abundance of flora & fauna. Located just minutes from the little fishing village of Fenit, this beach is a popular spot for both swimmers & surfers.
 
 
Maharbeg Beach – Blue Flag Beach
This spectacular sand beach can be found 3 miles north of Castlegregory amid roving sand dunes. When travelling to this beach it will quickly become evident that this is a haven for Surfers & Windsurfers. Summer water camps are also run during the summer month in conjunction with courses for all levels of surfers.
 
 
Ventry Beach – Blue Flag Beach
This sand beach can be found on the Dingle Peninsula at the south west of Ventry, an area steeped in Natural Heritage. This beach is very popular with families and like all the counties Blue Flag Beaches, this is an area with a rich abundance of Flora & Fauna
 
Inch Beach – Blue Flag Beach
Located between the harbours of Dingle and Castlemaine this is perhaps the most famous beach in Ireland, home to the Famous Ryan’s Daughter film who’s stars included Robert Mitchum, Sarah Miles, John Mills, Christopher Jones, Trevor Howard and Leo McKern. This sand beach boasts some 5 kilometres of flora, fauna and natural habitats
 
Rossbeigh Beach – Blue Flag Beach
Located just on the outskirts of Glenbeigh you will find the beautiful Rossbeigh Beach which juts out into Dingle Bay with nothing but soft sand and sea on either side. Apart from Swimming & Surfing you can also take a horse riding trip along the beach and hinterland, a great way to engage with nature.
 
Kells Beach – Blue Flag Beach
Located on the Iveragh Penninsula some 11 Kilometers from Caherciveen is the beautiful sandy Kelly Beach. This is a great family friendly beach with lots to see and do for the family. Explore the rocky facade rich with flora & fauna.  
 
White Strand Beach – Blue Flag Beach
Regarded by many as the counties smallest and most intimate beach, the White Strand is a great place to spend some quality time relaxing. Visitors to this sandy beach also tend to take a walk along the rocky coast the envelopes this area.
 
Ballinskelligs Beach – Blue Flag Beach
An extensive sandy beach in a rural environment, designated as a Natural Heritage Area. The beach is located on the western side of Ballinskelligs Harbour, 2km south of the village of Dungeagan located in the Gaelic speaking part of County Kerry.
 
Derrynane Beach – Blue Flag Beach
For sand and water as far as the eye can see a visit to Derrynane Beach is a must on your visit to Kerry.
